The First Album I Ever Bought
Yes. It was Quiero Ser by Menudo. Yes, it is now embarrassing. But, I was about six years old at the time and totally IN LOVE with them… especially Xavier… because I thought since my name began with a Z and his with an X, that it meant something - two names beginning with unconventional letters and all. Plus, in my six-year-old mind he was totally hot.
I look at the album cover now and find the oiled-up, faux leather look a bit… creepy.
I haven’t listened to the headlining song “Quiero Ser” since I was that age, and I was extremely SHOCKED that I remembered most of the words. It’s funny how that happens. It’s actually quite a sweet song and opened the flood gates to a lot of forgotten moments. I need to ask my mom if the album is laying around somewhere. It most definitely has faded hearts etched all over the cover. In the meantime, I might download a few of the songs and relive childhood memories.
