On my way to South Africa

Right now I’m sitting in the Virgin Atlantic lounge at Heathrow airport - funny that I’ve been to this airport three times but haven’t actually walked the streets of London yet. I have a five hour layover, which on paper seems awful, but this lounge is kick-ass and I think I could live here for a while if prompted. Complimentary drinks, food, wifi, massages, fluffy hairdos and haircuts — can we make it a ten hour layover, please?
Highlight of the day so far must have been getting on the plane and realizing that business class on Virgin means being able to make your seat fold out into a bed. Also champagne. Oh, it also means Coldplay’s Chris Martin sitting, excuse me, SLEEPING right next to me. I think I even heard him snoring. Can’t say for sure. I didn’t want to look like a fan girl and I all but kept myself from stuffing my ipod in his face and showing him that he’s a prominent feature on my playlist.
So back to this lounge — have I already said that it kicks major ass? I can’t help but look around and wonder — “what in the world have I done to deserve this?” Then I tell the Universe, “hey, whatever the hell it is, I’m going to keep on doing it if you keep on bringing it.” :) I think we all need to just accept when nice things happen… not ask too many questions, ya know? :)
Oh my God, they serve free mojitos here!
I’m off to South Africa in a few hours and very excited about it. Very nervous as well. Traveling alone with a group of strangers makes the socially anxious and awkward me want to hide under a pile of large rocks… or at least large pillows. Either case, most people wouldn’t know this because I seem pretty extroverted, but I totally and completley suck at social situtations, at least I suck on the inside. A lot.
Anyway, I’m on a blogging tour called We Blog the World with a few other bloggers. I’ll be blogging my personal thoughts here and my more public thoughts on the EPIC FU blog. Well, it’s all public, isn’t it?
It’s set to be a fun ride with helicopter rides, windfarm tours, descending into the world’s deepest gold mine, diamond mining, visiting with locals, wine tasting, and lots more. I’ll be updating the blogs, Flickr, and Twitter as much as possible.
Oh! Almost forgot to change my dollars to Rands… gotta go do that now. Here we go!
