Holy hell!! Where have I been and how have I not seen this?!? Amazing and disturbing. I love it.

Rubber Johnny is a six-minute experimental short film and music video directed by Chris Cunningham in 2005, using music composed by Aphex Twin.

Thanks to Daniel Merlot for the link.

Small Update

Things I’m working on:

  • Final edit of Jinx commercial I directed
  • Relaunch of Epic Fu, production mode (full announcement this week)
  • British Council Global Youth Xchange Program (event, website, social media)
  • TN2020 International Project
  • Final edit of short documentary
  • Development of feature length documentary
  • Development of music video
  • Pitch documents
  • Moving to downtown LA in February

I swear there is more. I have to start jogging/yoga again.

Also, I have to start blogging about all of this in order to process. I get into full production mode and blogging about it all seems to be the last thing I think about. When I do, it’ll be on my regular blog.

Slow is a revolution.

This music video is insane. Wait for it. The stuff of fever dreams.

I’ve been anticipating Vampire Weekend’s sophomore album, Contra, for some time. We featured them on Epic Fu in early 2008 and got hooked on their sound: indie-pop meets light afro-caribbean beat. It’s not hard to like. The album isn’t releasing until the 12th in the States, but KCRW is streaming the album now, so you can have a listen. Yeah, there’s also a free copy floating around, but remember to support indie artists if you enjoy the album.

Do you know why I put up with this pitiful job, Mr. Donaghy? Why I fetch these folks’ lunches and clean up their barfs? Because they make television. And more than jazz or musical theater or morbid obesity, television is the true American art form. Think of all the shared experiences television has provided for us, from the Moon landing to the Golden Girls finale; from Walter Cronkite denouncing Vietnam, to Oprah pulling the trash bag of fat out in the wagon; from the glory and the pageantry of the Summer Olympics, to the less fun Winter Olympics. So please, don’t tell me I don’t have a dream, sir. I am living my dream.

The Starbucks Love Project. On December 7, 2009 over 150 countries came together for a worldwide singing event to help fight AIDS in Africa. Starbucks and (RED) continue to donate 5 cents for every voice added.

The Jazz Loft Project. Over 40,000 photos and 4,000 hours of recordings by Eugene Smith, from 821 Sixth Avenue in New York City. The late night haunt of jazz greats like Charles Mingus, Zoot Sims, Bill Evans, and Thelonius Monk.

High School yearbooks come to life in this nostalgic music video for the song Seventeen by Matt Kresling. You can download the album for free.

Everything we knew was wrong.
Walk out the door and slam the screen.
We were only seventeen
so long, so long, so long ago.

A friend of mine, Lan Bui, also just did a memory bank video for 2009. As did Paul Dateh, Vu Bui, and originally Mike Ambs. It’s great to see the different variations in all of our videos and how we may have overlapped in certain places.

Today is my birthday. I feel like I’m shedding skin. A past me. It feels strange. And vulnerable. And good.

Goodbye 2009. You were a year full of difficult, but very useful, lessons. I love you for that.

Last ZOMG moment of 09?

Teen Witch was one of my favorite movies growing up so this tribute featuring Maeby from Arrested Development MAKES MY YEAR.

Also, I think its very telling that I’m more ashamed of the fact that I’ve forgotten all the lyrics to the girlverse than the fact that I actually spent a day rewinding a VHS tape to learn them.
